125 Years of Grape Growing in Washington County

In 1886, Charles Niederauer established a vineyard on the family’s 140-acre homestead north ofBrenham in Washington County. He planted Herbemont and Black Spanish and both of these grapes are in the vineyards at Pleasant Hill Winery today. Today we have 3 wonderful wineries carrying on the tradition of Washington County wine: Saddlehorn Winery, Windy Winery and Pleasant Hill Winery Be sure to visit all three while staying at the B&B or when passing through Washington County!

Antiques Fair June 2011 Brenham Texas

Join in the fun of the 16th Annual Brenham Summer Antiques Show, on Saturday and Sunday, June 11-12, 2011  This annual show will feature antique country and formal furniture, glassware, pottery, silver, paintings, vintage toys, and collectibles for every interest.

Enjoy the garden area which will include a Farmer’s Market with fresh farm produce, flowering plants, shrubs, herbs and rustic garden furnishings.    Annual Summer Antiques Fair here in Brenham Texas at the  Knights of Columbus is only 3 miles from the  B&B, where we are a perfect spot for staying while indulging your passion for antique treasure hunting!

Independence Spring Home Tours

Independence, TX

March 26-27 and April 2-3, 9-10, 16-17,  experience the grandeur of the  historic village known as Independence, Texas through tours and folklife demonstrations. Independence is known as the original birthplace of Texas, home of the oldest Baptist church & museum, Antique Rose Emporium, Old Baylor Park where Baylor University was founded, Seward  Plantation, and more.  It is located on the historic scenic LaBahia Trail, an incredible driving tour with historical stops along the way.  Be sure to stop at Lil’ Independence Icehouse and Good Eats Co for some great grub while touring the village.  Sponsored by the Independence Historical Society, the tour & demonstration hours are: Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m.-4 p.m.  Book a room at the ranch to extend your pleasure!

Elopement — Texas Style!

Congratulations go out to Debra & Dustin who were married recently at the ranch in an intimate elopement ceremony!  It was our extreme pleasure to celebrate their memory filled day with them as they said their vows, toasted each other and started their new life as a married couple here at the B&B!

Crabcake Recipe

Crabcake

These crabcakes are the ones used with the Roasted Pear-Blue Cheese Salad from one of our cooking classes at the B&B.  They would also be great served on top of homemade corn chowder with a warm french bread roll or topped with Remoulade and stuffed into a hoagie and eaten out of hand!

1 pound fresh crabmeat, picked clean

4 medium scallions, minced (1/2 cup)

1 Tb. fresh parsley

1 1/2  tsp. Old Bay Seasoning

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 large egg

1/4 cup panko crumbs

1/4 cup oil

Gently mix first 6 ingredients.  Fold in egg with rubber spatula until mixture just clings together.  Divide into 4 parts and form cakes.  Dredge in Panko and quickly pan fry cakes in hot (but not smoking) oil in non-stick skillet.  Cook 4 to 5 minutes per side or until browned and crisp.  Serve hot.  Servings: 4
