American History and Blue Bell Ice Cream

Blue Bell Ice Cream

Washington County and Brenham, Texas are known for the “Little Creamery in Brenham”…..otherwise officially named Blue Bell.  Blue Bell is located just 2 miles from the B&B and has made real ice cream for a very long  time.  While privately owned, it has spread into other states and has several satellite plants outside of Texas.  One of the first things we are asked by our guests is how far is the ice cream factory and do they have tours?  Click here to learn more about the interesting history of Blue Bell and this area.  This quick read gives a bit of insite into life as it was lived many a year ago in this small city, known as Brenham…..my husbands birthplace, hometown and site of the B&B, his family’s homeplace built when they immigrated from Poland in the  late 1800′s.

Southern Flyer Diner at the Brenham Airport

Brenham Airport Diner

Southern Flyer Diner is located a mere 3 miles from the B&B along with the local airport where the diner is home.  Known for their burgers, old fashioned milk shakes, chicken fried steaks and 50′s style diner, this local haven is a must stop for pilots coming through the area as well as locals & tourists looking for some really good grub and old fashioned fun.  For four years running the Diner has been voted “Best of the Best” on the 100 Dollar Hamburger survey . Of course, the $100 is not the cost of a burger.  “A great place to land with great eats” is how they advertise it. The “poodle girls” (waitresses) and retro atmosphere just add to the fun.  For a taste of the fun, check out this video of the Diner’s owners receiving the ‘$100’ award.
