Where to Find Some of the Best Texas Craft Beer

July 5th, 2016 by Pamela Murski

texas craft beer
You don’t have to look far to find craft beer these days. Brewers and breweries dedicated to creating exceptional beers are in abundance, much to the delight of anyone who appreciates great beer! The Lone Star State is no exception, and when you stay at Murski Homestead B&B, you won’t be far from some of the best Texas craft beer. From the Hill Country to Houston, there’s no shortage of Texas craft beer and brewers!

Texas Craft Beer: Where to Find It

Brenham

Brazos Valley Brewing Company calls Brenham home, and we’re thankful for that! Less than three years old, Brazos Valley offers a great selection of both mainstay and rotational beers. Get your hop fix with the Roots Radical Double IPA, or opt for the smooth, refreshing Golden Ale. If you want to treat your taste buds to something special, try the 7 Angels Spanish Brown, a brown ale packed full of flavor, thanks in part to their use of Independence Coffee Company beans.

Austin

With a thriving culture that boasts great music, art, and food, it’s only right that Austin offers plenty of Texas craft beer. There are too many Austin breweries to list here, so we’ll stick with the most popular. Austin Beerworks is one of the city’s favorites, featuring a great selection of German-style beers, seasonal IPAs, and more. Independence Brewing Company is another local go-to. Stop by their tap room and enjoy their well-rounded selection of beers, live music, and  food! Want more Austin craft beer? Head to Thirsty Planet Brewing Company, Jester King Brewery, or Hops and Grain Brewing, and you won’t be let down.

Houston

Heat and humidity go hand in hand in Houston, but you don’t have to look far to beat the heat here. Houston breweries are in abundance, including Zagat-rated Karbach Brewing Company. Karbach brews a wide variety of beers, including their take on a German mainstay, the Karabachtoberfest and the Weisse Versa Wheat. Grab a beer and enjoy the brewery’s restaurant and Biergarten. You can’t visit Houston without visiting the state’s oldest craft brewery, though. Saint Arnold Brewing Company is a Houston favorite, and one pint of their year round or seasonal brews, and you’ll see why. Other great breweries in Houston include 8th Wonder Brewery, Spindletap Brewery, and more.

College Station

College Station is home to not only the Aggies  but to Texas craft beer, too! New Republic Brewing and Blackwater Draw Brewing Company hold down the local beer scene here, and a trip to either will please your palate. Treat yourself to a dark, tasty Skylight Dunkelweizen, or their popular Dammit Jim! Texas amber. Blackwater Draw has two locations in town, giving you twice as many chances to enjoy a pint of their Mulligan Kolsch with brunch.

Hill Country Craft Beer Trail

We only listed a sample of breweries here – just about enough for a flight. If you want to explore the world of Texas craft beer, head to the Hill Country Craft Beer Trail website, and book a tour! Choose one of the several tours that will take you throughout the region, and enjoy the area’s best beer. Shuttle service options are available, so you won’t have to worry about driving.
