Washington On The Brazos Texas

Washington On The Brazos Texas is the premier place to visit in the great state of Texas!  No visit to this fine state would be complete without a stop at Washington On The Brazos Texas, also fondly  known as The Official Birthplace of Texas and where Texas Became Texas!

This state historic site is located on 293 acres of lush park land and gives visitors unique insights into the lives and times of the 59 delegates who met on that very spot on March 2, 1836 to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico when the  Republic of Texas became an independent nation. Washington on the Brazos Texas is, indeed, “Where Texas Became Texas.”

Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site, a short drive down Hwy 105 from our world class country ranch bed and breakfast, has many onsite attractions open daily, including  the Star of the Republic Museum; Independence Hall; and Barrington Living History Farm. The onsite Visitor Center features interactive exhibits which present a timeline of the Texas Revolution and a wide range of Texas souvenirs and Texas themed items in a spacious Emporium Gift Shop.  Additionally, included in the WOB complex are Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site and the Six Flags over Texas Monument. Besides the daily ongoing attractions, Washington On The Brazos also offers an incredible year-round schedule of events and programs.

Some of the events and programs include:

Living History Saturday at Independence Hall, where visitors travel back in time to where a nation was born in 1836. On the third Saturday of each month, staff and volunteers dressed in period clothing bring to life the people and events of Old Washington providing a unique opportunity to discover various aspects of life surrounding the birth of the Republic of Texas.

At events at the Barrington Living History Farm you will find topics & demonstrations like “Bloodletting, Leeches and Laudanum: Medicine in the 1850s” and “Basketry on the Brazos”.  The events are always changing.

Every year have fun at the  Texas Independence Day Celebration,  a Texas-sized birthday celebration with music, food, traditional crafts, living history presentations, firing demonstrations, historical encampments and period craft demonstrations.

Don’t forget the 4th of July Independence Day Celebration:  a colossal day of fun culminating with a massive fireworks display and concert.  This July 4th celebration is the best!

All of these great events and more are reasons to visit Washington On The Brazos Texas.  Located minutes from the bed and breakfast makes this visit even more desirable for our guests.  They know that after a fun day exploring the life and times of what it was to be a Texan in the early days at Washington On The Brazos, they  can come back to enjoy a relaxing soak in the outdoor spa and be just 5 minutes away from our historic downtown to enjoy live music and a delicious dinner without having to travel a “country mile” away!  We are, after all, the perfect spot to come home to!
