What is There to See at the Chappell Hill Lavender Farm?

February 7th, 2016 by Pamela Murski

Lavender-Farm

The Chappell Hill Lavender Farm in Brenham, Texas, opens for the season on March 4, but has a special gift shop debut exclusively for Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14. Take advantage of the blossoming purple oasis while finding that special something for your special someone. Fragrances, bath and body works, culinary creations, and even pet-friendly products are available for purchase.

If that’s too short of notice, schedule a trip in advance and book your stay just 15 minutes away at the Murski Homestead Bed and Breakfast, a delightful country retreat in Brenham, Texas. The bed and breakfast even has a specific Lavender Room, alongside its Sage, Rosemary, and Garden Rooms. An outdoor spa is also at your disposal, along with cooking classes. So, you might get to put that lavender to use in a culinary setting as well as a health resort setting!

Chappell Hill Lavender Festival

Before you book your stay, you should be aware of an annual festival that takes place near the end of each summer. Though lavender blooms throughout a significant portion of the year, August is the perfect time to enjoy the richly colored fields and some wine simultaneously. The Chappell Hill Lavender Festival recognizes that the beautiful and relaxing oasis, waving freely in the fresh country air, pairs well with a glass of wine. The Chappell Hill Lavender Fest joins together Chappell Hill Lavender Farm and Windy Winery, along with featuring vendors, crafts, music, and demonstrations for an outdoor celebration. Admission is free, but wine tastings have fees.

Lavender and Its Healing Qualities

Obviously, the best thing to see at the Chappell Hill Lavender Farm is the awe-inspiring lavender field, a floral sea in a breezy and rejuvenating country setting. The plant itself has been known for its many healing qualities. Typically used in soaps, sachets, and scents, lavender was a typical ingredient in baths to cleanse the body and spirit. It is also deemed a natural remedy for anxiety and insomnia, hence its use in candles, incense, and fragrances.

Chappell Hill Lavender Farm Gift Shop

Before leaving the Chappell Hill Lavender Farm, the gift shop is a must-stop. The Lavender Patch offers an impressive variety of lavender products ranging from body scrubs to jams. Some of the popular bath and body products include an aromatherapy travel kit, foaming lavender bath salts, and natural dried sea salts with lavender essential oil. Fragrances range from spiced lavender to rose lavender, and a handmade soothing lavender mint bar of soap will rejuvenate in the shower. For some scents to use throughout the home, sea lavender candles and lavender dryer bags will refresh a room or your laundry. The Chappell Hill Lavender Farm shop even includes shampoo for your pet. Then, for tasty treats, try the lavender berry jam or a variety of tea blends. These items make great gifts and, of course, wonderful ways to treat yourself as well.

Lavender Products

Lavender

Lavender Products of all kinds can be found in Washington County.  One of the best places to experience sumptuous lavender products is by staying at Murski Homestead Bed and Breakfast where our bathrooms  feature lavender products made by Chappell  Hill Lavender Farm.   Being a gardener and big  fan of all things herbal, one of our romantic private rooms is named after the herb and aptly named the Lavender Room.  While staying in the Lavender Room, enjoy the private electric fireplace, massive king size cedar post  bed and private porch!

Take a tour of the Chappell Hill Lavender Farm and pick up some wonderful lavender products to take home with you to enjoy in your own house spa!   While out in that neck of the woods venture on into  Chappell Hill, a tiny town known for its spring Bluebonnet Festival, its summer Fourth of July parade, its fall Scarecrow Festival and its winter home tour.

Stop in at Lavande, which opened in the sweet little white house that used to shelter the Historical Society. There, Farmer Craig, as he’s known, sells all manner of fragrant lavender products, from body wash to seasoning rub to sachets to notecards. Check out the lavender mosquito spray, which he says, being only lavender, grain alcohol and water, is safe enough for babies.

It’s practically illegal to go through Chappell Hill without stopping in at The Bluebonnet House, the 21-year-old shop that sells goods to adorn your home, garden or earlobes. And you must talk to Dale Ramey, the proprietor, who knows everyone and everything about Chappell Hill.  While you’re there, pop over to the Brown Eyed Girl, which sells clothing, home décor and jewelry with a bit of a Texas flair.

If history is your thing, tour the Methodist church, visit the museum and definitely pick your way through the Masonic cemetery, where the son and grandchildren of William Travis are buried.

Need a little pick  me up? Fuel up with a homemade country style chicken sandwich or enchiladas at Bevers Kitchen. And whatever you do, save room for a slice of their ethereal pie.  After the pie, settle back with a cold one at the local watering hole called the 291 Ice House, whose motto is “tragically chic yet refreshingly primitive.” The taps open at noon on weekends, 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.

After refueling your personal  tank, head back into downtown Brenham for more places to shop for Lavender Products.   While out and about on the square in downtown Brenham perusing the wares you will discover several of the shops  who stock and sell an assortment of Lavender products.  Some of the shops even make their own products  such as Heaven’s Door.  Final stop of the day should definitely be Home Sweet Farm Market in Downtown Brenham where you will find lavender products produced from local Texas farms as well as other delicious locally produced foods and items.  While there enjoy a mug of their ice cold beer from one of the many microbrews on tap in their Biergarten and a charcuterie platter to thoroughly enjoy the scene.

After a exciting day shopping for lavender products, enjoying local boutiques and local beer, head back to the ranch and your private romantic room for a luxurious nights sleep. Relax in the outdoor spa to soak away the day’s cares before slipping into your king size bed for true deep  country sleep!  Book your room today and make your plan for picking up some great lavender products made in Brenham Texas!
