June 22nd, 2016 by Pamela Murski

An evening at the Houston Symphony is a lovely way to spend one of your evenings while staying at our world class Bed and Breakfast in Brenham, Texas.  Only a little over an hours car drive away,  you can experience big city entertainment and country style relaxation all during your weekend getaway. Absolutely, the best of both worlds!

The Houston Symphony, founded in 1913 by Miss Ima Hogg, has played a central role in Houston’s cultural and civic life for more than 100 years.  The Houston Symphony is one of America’s oldest performing arts organizations with a distinguished musical history.  Choose from piano,  violin,  choral, Broadway,  vocalists, jazz and with screens performances when choosing the performance for your evening entertainment. They offer a Summer Series, a Classical Series, a POPS Series, a Family Series, a Sugar Land Series, Symphony Specials, Musically Speaking Concerts, a Beethoven Series and National Geographic Live.

The Houston Symphony has flourished since its inception under A litany of distinguished leaders such as Ernst Hoffmann (1936-47), Efrem Kurtz (1948-54), Ferenc Fricsay (1954), Leopold Stokowski (1955-61), Sir John Barbirolli (1961-67), André Previn (1967-69), Lawrence Foster (1971-78), Sergiu Comissiona (1979-88), Christoph Eschenbach (1988-99), Hans Graf (2001-13), and Andrés Orozco-Estrada. Housed in numerous venues over the years of growth since the inception of the Houston Symphony, Jones Hall for the Performing Arts is the orchestras current home.  The Houston Symphony Orchestra currently has a menu of over 300 performances  a year  in evening and matinee format playing in a variety of venues outside of Jones Hall…many of which are totally free to the public.

The Houston Symphony Orchestra has enjoyed many road tours, playing in prestigious venues  from our military bases during war times  to the world famous Carnegie Hall plus touring overseas in Europe and Japan multiple times.   In June 2012, the Houston Symphony represented the first ever American orchestra to perform in the Annual Festival of the World’s Symphony Orchestras in Moscow, Russia which is known as the highlight of the Moscow musical season.
