Join us for this unique culinary experience.  Celebrated Chef Jesse Griffiths will prepare an elegant five course home-style dinner in the field at the historic Citadel of Washington County.  Dine with the local farmers who grow the food and enjoy the fifty mile harvest.  Live music, local wine samplings and featured folk artists will give guests a memorable event not to be missed.  Cash Bar will be available.

Chef JESSE GRIFFITHS embodies the forefront of the new hunting-cooking movement. He has gained national praise for his strictly local butcher shop and supper clubs (Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, Country Living, Garden & Gun) and his series of practical hunting schools are the first of their kind. In less than a year, they have drawn students from around the country and have gained attention from the New York Times, Texas Monthly, and others. Jesse was nominated as Food & Wine’s The People’s Best New Chef in 2011, and is the owner and chef of Dai Due with his life/ work partner, Tamara Mayfield. The couple received Austin’s Edible Communities Local Hero award in 2012.  Jesse is the author of Afield: A chef’s guide to preparing and cooking wild game and fish, a James Beard Award finalist in 2013.

Event Organizer / Farmer BRAD STUFFLEBEAM “A pioneer of the local food movement in the Lone Star State” (Texas Agriculture Magazine) and 2012 recipient of the Houston Mayor’s Award: Champion of Food Justice, Brad has been a professional organic horticulturist in Texas since 1991, the past President of the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (TOFGA), current USDA Council Member of Southern SARE, Board Member for the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance and a full-time farmer in Washington County Texas. Brad has been an educator and organizer for many of the largest organic farming events in Texas. Brad and his wife Jenny own HOMEsweetFARM serving their local community and the Houston area through a unique Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program with a Farm Market in downtown Brenham. Featured in numerous articles and books, his enthusiasm and passion has inspired others in their quest for real food.

The Gates open at 5:30 pm for guests to explore the Historic Citadel, previously closed to the public for over 70 years.  Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and local wine tastings while Local Folk Artist LEON COLLINS and others display their work through out the grounds.  Dinner with the farmers will be served under the Pecan Trees at 7pm.

Texas Wineries are so much fun!  Just north  of Brenham and 10 minutes from the ranch you will find Windy Winery, the only local winery  that is home to wine made only with Texas grapes.  It is always a delightful place to stop in for a tasting, a bottle of wine to enjoy on the porch or for one of their fun adventures…..just like their annual Gumbo Cookoff

This annual Texas Wine event which lasts for 4 weekends is fun and exciting.  Don’t know much about Texas wine, grapes, picking, stomping, etc?  No problem, you don’t have to.  Just book your room, come on up for the weekend and we’ll get you headed in the right direction.  We are so pleased to have 3 wineries just minutes away from Murski Homestead.

Outstanding in The Field: Brenham, Texas 2011

My husband and I  had the opportunity to attend Outstanding in the Field in Brenham, TX .  People travel from all over to have this  one  of a kind experience.  Lucky for us our home and B&B is just 15 minutes away from this particular venue!  Outstanding in the Field’s mission is to reconnect diners to the land and origins of their food and to honor local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it. We enjoyed a 5 course meal made from local ingredients and prepared by Paul Lewis, the chef of Cullen’s Upscale American Grille .  Each course was paired with a Texas wine, and the event was held at Jolie Vue Farms , about an hour and a half outside of Houston and a 15 minute country drive from Brenham Texas and the B&B.

We arrived around 2pm
