    Texas History in Downtown Brenham

    Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Brenham, Texas is an incredibly historically rich Texas town.  Another untold bit of history is about to unfold and be added to the attractions for visitors and locals alike…….“The story of  Brenham’s cisterns” starts in 1860 when the Washington County Railroad was finished and  is the story that will be told at Toubin Park, another pocket park that will be opened to the public this summer 2011. The groundbreaking ceremony was held recently and the reconstruction has begun!  As only the second railroad in Texas, it was a remarkable feat that turned Brenham into a boom town, almost overnight. This started a chain of extraordinary events, with colorful characters, leading to the cisterns under our streets and buildings, according to Sharon Brass, a Main Street Brenham volunteer who did most of the recent research.  Get ready for another great historic tour opportunity in downtown Brenham!
