Teddy Bear Parade

Chappell Hill Teddy Bear Parade

Visits with Santa, holiday lights, Christmas parades and home tours… Celebrate with those you love and shop ’til you drop this season. Chappell Hill comes alive for two weekends in December offering all of the above!  It starts with the Christmas Fayre and the Teddy Bear Parade the first weekend of December.

Chappell Hill, Texas is home to the famous Teddy Bear Parade, held every year during the Christmas Fayre!  This year it is on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 12-7pm on Main Street in Chappell Hill, Texas.  A delightful holiday event for the whole family, downtown Chappell Hill comes alive with engaging and fun activities like shopping, wine tasting, live music, train rides, live reindeer, and fun & games for the kids.  Don’t forget Santa will pay a visit, too!

Moving on…the next stop on the Holiday Event Calendar in Chappell Hill is the Christmas Country Homes Tour scheduled for December 14 & 15 from  noon -5 pm with 6 amazing structures all decorated for the holidays. Here’s what you can except to see on the tour.

THE MYRTLE PROVIDENCE HOUSE
This lovely 1845 home sits right in the middle of the town of Chappell Hill.  Come and enjoy the large front porch and then enter through the original doors of the home to enjoy many of the antiques of the home which are very much a part of the decor and fabric of the current home.

T & L RANCH
Travis and Linda Cook’s lovely home, located on a hill in the Lakes of Chappell Hill, has been turned into a “mini ranch”.  This sprawling home, built in 2000, has been transformed into a welcoming household with memories of past hunting trips with family and friends.  They invite everyone to come by to share some of their Christmas spirit.

SUMMERHILL (3 homes on property)
Summerhill on Sandy Lane, returns one to the gentle joys of country life.  Sitting on a rolling hillside, you see a replica of an early Texas farm house, a new home and a small restored late 1800’s house.  The homes are furnished with treasured vintage pieces, family heirlooms, and eclectic country French classics.  Many of the quilts in the homes were made by nationally acclaimed quilt makers, from the area of Gee’s Bend, Alabama; all descendants of slaves who worked on a plantation located on the Alabama River.

CHAPPELL HILL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Tour this lovely 1901 church, which replaced the original structure that was blown down from the 1900 Galveston hurricane.  The pews are all original from the 1851 church and the walls are east Texas pine, built by Henry Christen Brandt who treated the interior with boiled linseed oil.     The beautiful windows,  made by a company in Houston, Texas, contain stained glass made in England in the 1890’s when glass was heated over charcoal fire.  The Bible on the altar is dated 1856 and the picture over the altar of the “Last Supper” is from the 1940’s.  Stop in and visit this historical beauty!

As you mark your calendar for Chappell Hill’s Holiday Home Tour and Teddy Bear Parade, don’t forget to reserve your room at Murski Homestead Bed and Breakfast. If it’s just the two of you coming for the Christmas Fayer, then book one of our romance packages at the ranch to make the weekend even sweeter….. making special holiday memories with your love! Christmas Stroll

Christmas Stroll

It’s that time of year again……shopping, presents, Christmas music, Christmas lights, celebrating with family and friends, going to church and celebrating our Saviors birth, Christmas Cantatas, travelling to visit loved ones, great feasts and parties, more shopping and of course, the Christmas Stroll in Downtown Brenham!

The Christmas Stroll fun, which marks the beginning of the Christmas season in Brenham, Texas kicks off on Friday, December 6. 2013  in Downtown Brenham with activities for the whole family.

The Christmas Stroll is Brenham’s way to kick off the Christmas Season with sights and sounds that delight young and old alike. It takes flight with the lighting of the Courthouse Square Christmas trees and is followed by the Downtown Parade of Lights. This light-filled, old-fashioned parade winds through the streets of downtown and finishes with a special appearance from Santa Clause arriving on a fire truck.

After the parade, stroll the downtown shops for unique gifts and warm cider and cookies. The Farmer’s Market will be open with mouth watering treats, handmade crafts, and other vendors. A holiday shopping adventure awaits you at the Jingle Bell Market.

The Christmas Stroll this year marks the addition of an ice skating rink open for everyone of any age who enjoys being adventurous!  The skating rink opens for your skating enjoyment on Friday, December 6 from 4 to 10 pm and again on Saturday, December 7 from 10 to 4 pm.  So come prepared to strap on those skates and give the rink a whirl!

While downtown for the Christmas Stroll, enjoy holiday music provided by Tuba Christmas, the wonderful free Gingerbread Home Tour (which benefits Habitat for Humanity!),  the Jingle Bell Market,  a colorful lighted parade,  and  downtown  Brenham where buildings and shops glow with lights and holiday cheer.

Return to Murski Homestead Bed and Breakfast for a romantic and relaxing visit to the outdoor spa.  With almost 100 jets and enough luxurious seating to hold up to seven people, it truly is the perfect end to a day of holiday fun!  We will provide the towels for you. All you need to do is grab your swimsuit, slide in and unwind. Your visit to the spa, combined with our comfortable accommodations, will have you sleeping like a baby. Get a good night’s rest before waking up to head back downtown for more fun on Saturday during the Christmas Stroll.

The Pet parade gets things rolling once again on Saturday, December 7 at 10 am, in Downtown Brenham, plus more of all the great things you enjoyed on Friday when the Christmas Stroll kicked off the holiday season. Don’t Forget to enjoy the Santa’s Secret Scavenger Hunt!   All day Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December  7th, enjoy participating in an adult-minded scavenger hunt where answering mystery questions could lead to winning a huge gift basket filled with goodies and gift cards!  Local Shoppers will be given a scavenger hunt sheet with questions they have to answer at all participating venues downtown. Downtown is the perfect place to shop for all those Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers.

Come back to the ranch and  take another  relaxing dip in our outdoor spa or enjoy the evening stars out on one of our porches reminiscing about all  the fun you had downtown during the Christmas Stroll!  Let us help you plan your holiday kickoff stay at the most perfect getaway spot in Washington County!  Call us today….877-690-0676 or book online.

Downtown shops will be open both days and several surprise venues await discovery as well.
