Free Summer Concert Series in Downtown Brenham Texas

LINEUP for 2012

The concerts start at 7 p.m. this year.

Kicking off the event on Saturday, July 7, are The Newsboyz (newsboyz.com), a five-piece band from Austin with female and male lead singers, playing a huge variety of music.

The second week, Saturday, July 14, concert attendees will see the band Dysfunkshun Junkshun (dysfunkshunjunkshun.com).

Returning to the Hot Nights stage, Saturday, July 21 is Abbey Rode & Already Gone (AbbeyRode.com) — Beatles and Eagles Tribute bands.

Saturday, July 28, Main Street brings back the popular group Suede (suedeaustin.com), which performs hits from the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and today.

This year, the Stray Katz Car Club is sponsoring the Classic Car Cruise-In that will be lining West Alamo Street for every show. Car enthusiasts interested in participating may call 836-2855.

Again this year, food and beverages are going to be available provided by the Brenham Rotary Club and Brenham Main Street Historical Preservation Inc. Those planning to enjoy the evening are encouraged to support these organizations and the work they do in the community, by leaving coolers at home and helping to keep the concerts free.

If you are not enjoying one of our Tapas, Foodie Baskets or dinner from one of our cooking  classes, then we recommend swinging over to the Brazos Belle in nearby Burton. This classically French restaurant lives in a lovely historic building that dates back to 1875. French chef Andre Delacroix trained in Paris before working for ten years at the Four Seasons in Houston; as he grew weary of Big City Life, he conceptionalized and opened the Brazos Belle, offering a simple, seasonal menu of farm-fresh French favorites — like a rockin’ cassoulet.  After your incredibly delicious French dinner, bring back a bottle of wine  from the  restaurant to share on our of our many porches before heading off for a great nights sleep!

Drive up Friday in time for dinner at Ernie’s American Bistro, a roomy spot in downtown Brenham. This place offers a mix of “regional” specialties (like tortilla soup and enchiladas) and more traditional fare (like a baked spinach salad, pork chop, and meatloaf).

On Saturday, grab your morning pick-me-up at the Independence Coffee Company, a lovely, light-filled shop in downtown Brenham. Beans are roasted nearby at their private roastery down Hwy 105  and the baristas are knowledgeable and nice.

Afterward, walk over to the Brenham Farmers Market, located in a one-room red building just off the square. Grab a fruit kolache, breakfast taco, or grilled sausage while you peruse the produce and handmade crafts.

Then take some time to stroll the square, stopping by stores like the Antique Gypsy or Fancy That, before hitting Must Be Heaven for lunch. Must Be Heaven is an old-fashioned eatery offering delicious sandwiches (the Muffaletta is almost as good as the one from New Orleans French Quarter!) and pies. Sandwiches are made to order and served with a smile — plus chips or an apple. Grab a slice of Sawdust Pie on your way out; this is the only place we’ve ever seen it.

Ready for some bluebonnets? Jump in the car and head north on Highway 36; then turn down the smaller thoroughfares — like FM 390 — to find the best patches. If you hop out to take a photo, be careful to stay on public land.

On your way back to town, stop by the Blue Bell Creamery for an afternoon snack, fresh from the vats. Tours are available on weekdays only (and you’re *really* not missing anything without one) but the newly remodeled ice cream parlor is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Your “scoop” (which is more like two) will set you back a whole dollar…

Head down Highway 105, just a turn or two from Murski Homestead B&B, to take in the landscape. You’ll see bluebonnets, sure — but you’ll also find farmhouses, wildflowers, cows and horses nursing their young, and legit Texas longhorns.

Hungry again? Hit the Southern Flyer for lunch. This 1950’s-style diner sits in the Brenham Municipal Airport. Young waitresses steal the show in poodle skirts and saddle oxfords, but the burger and patty melt are dreamy, too. Don’t forget the homemade onion rings & chocolate malt — made with Blue Bell ice cream, of course.(Ready  for the best sleep of your life, then head on back to your romantic room at the ranch…..Murski Homestead B&B, where Texas Hospitality if what we specialize in!  Be sure to book your room ahead of time and add their “Breakfast in Bed” option to your reservation to finish off  your stay in true decadent Texas style! )

Live Music Round Top Texas

Looking for romance, great entertainment and lovely libations while  staying at the ranch?  Book one of our romance packages and enjoy live entertainment at the Stone  Cellar in Round Top which will be featured on the patio from 6:00-10:00 PM until March 16, 2012. Saturday evening performances will not be held in the event of inclement weather.  Friday night performances will be moved inside to the Stone Cellar piano room.

Owner Callie Schmidt, originally from our area, offers a wide range of down home food with that hand-made touch,  making  all their dishes from scratch.  They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.   Not only are they a great homestyle restaurant but also a delicious bakery too!   Offering everything from  blueberry whole wheat pancakes on the breakfast menu to an assortment of appetizers including Fried Green Beans with Wasabi Ranch Sauce to Hot Wings & Nachos, a huge variety of specialty Burgers, Sandwiches & Salads, delicious entrees such as Chicken Fried Steak, Fish Tacos, Bubba’s Liver & Onions,  yummy sides like Sweet Potato Fries, Okra & Tomato Goulash & Fresh Buttered Broccoli, to delicious  cakes, pies and other great baked goods!  We think this restaurant is worth considering on your next trip to Brenhan!
