Time for a Texas road trip! One of the best ways to spend your vacation time or a weekend getaway during your Texas Road Trip is to book a romantic room at our world class ranch style bed and breakfast in Brenham Texas as your respite between forays on your Texas Road Trip.  There are so many great places to visit and stops to be had along the way between Austin and Houston on your way to the ranch.

Start your Texas Road Trip in Austin and use our guide to check out  some of our favorite things to see and do on your drive in to Brenham.   Starting in Austin, we love the idea of a dip in Barton Springs  Pool.  Located within Zilker Park’s 358 acres  – the Barton Springs Pool measures three acres in size,  is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees and ideal for year-round swimming.  The dip will light up the hunger pangs so your next stop on down the 290 is Southside Market in Elgin Texas where you will get to experience some great Texas BBQ!

Elgin is the official Sausage capital of Texas and Southside Market, serving Elgin since 1882, is known for their world class BBQ and meats.  You can eat in or get it to go…..or better yet, do both and bring some with you to the Bed and Breakfast where you have a private pantry with mini fridge and microwave within your room for easy storage and access!  A few BBQ ribs are the perfect snack after a dip in the outdoor spa during you stay.

Back on your Texas Road Trip after lunch, head on down HWY 290 and take a little detour at Giddings over to the Round Top Henkel Square, home to the original Round Top Antiques Fairs.  This quaint little berg has a country square dedicated to artisans of all types.  While meandering through the artisan shops, stop in at Royers Pie Haven for a slab of delicious world famous homemade pie for dessert!

Next, head on down FM 249 toward Burton, TX and stop in at the Burton Cotton Gin Museum to see the oldest operating cotton gin in America and tour the gin to learn what it was like when “Cotton was King”.  Then on to the ranch and your private oasis for the night!

Coming into the ranch from the opposite direction?  Then our top 10 things  to see on your Texas Road Trip continue while on your way from Houston!  Let’s start this Texas Road Trip by driving  the route that Indians and original settlers to Texas took by driving the LaBahia Trail.  Along the way, sample some of the finest wines produced in the state in many of Boutique Wineries located on the Bluebonnet Wine Trail.  Purchase and extra bottle or two of some of your favorite tastings to enjoy while at the ranch.  (Your room is set up with ice bucket, wine stems and corkscrew….all ready and waiting for you!)

For history buffs, take a slight detour off the trail toward Hwy 105 for a visit to Washington on The Brazos State Park,  the original birthplace of Texas and home to an amazing Living History Farm, a world class Texas History Museum, the big July 4th birthday bash and more great experiences.

For you shoppers, we’ve got you covered too.  Besides all the great little shops in the picturesque Texas towns you’ll travel through on your way to the ranch, we’ve got a fantastic shopping experience all in one giant space at the Houston Premium Outlet Mall.

After your Texas Road Trip down 290, it’s time to check into your private room at the ranch, put on your swimsuit to slip into the outdoor spa and unwind from your day’s exploring in preparation for a farm to table dinner at 96West or one of the other wonderful restaurants in downtown Brenham.  Perfect ending to a perfect Texas Road Trip day!
