Texas is fast becoming known as a wine state with some fantastic boutique wineries with many vineyards near Houston.  There are so many vineyard near Houston to choose from and 5 of those are within a close radius and easy drive from the Bed and Breakfast.

First on the list is Messina Hof Winery at 4545 Old Reliance Rd in Bryan, TX:  Tracing centuries back, Messina, Sicily and Hof, Germany are the familial origins of the company founders, Merrill and Paul Bonarrigos.  With strong roots behind them, the Bonarrigos in 1977 planted their first vineyard in Bryan and named it Messina Hof, incorporating traditions from each ancestry.  Messina Hof is the most awarded and renowned Texas wine in national and international competitions.   The Tasting Room at Messina Hof showcases its immense wine selection suitable for any palate. Among these award-winning wines, there is a reserve selection of ultra-premium and library wines you cannot get anywhere else.

Second on the list is PeachCreek Vineyards in College Station, TX who offer a variety of wine from red/white, dry to sweet: Their Vines to Wines Tours are offered on Saturdays at 1:30 PM and between 1:00 and 4:00 on Friday and Sunday afternoons (non-trail weekends only), weather permitting. Feel free to call us at (979) 571-1232 to find out if tours are available on that day. Tours are available at other times for parties of 10 or more by special request and reservation. Tours are $10.68 per person (tax included).  Interested in only tasting, they  offer tastes of your choice of up to five wines for $8.54 per person  or an extended tasting of up to seven wines for $10.68!

Third stop on our list of vineyards near Houston is Windy Winery.  Located 10 minutes north of the ranch in our beautiful countryside, Windy Winery specializes in producing wines made only from Texas grapes.  This makes them extra special and a delight to taste.  Vintners, Linda and Augie Meitnzen, have created an inviting, fun and delicious experience from theirs vineyard tour and  wine tastings to their annual  grape stomping.  With their warm reception extended to everyone who steps through their doors, this little boutique winery is a must on any tour through Texas!

Travelling West  down HWY 290 you will find our Fourth vineyard near Houston worth a stop:  Saddlehorn Winery, located on a 390 acre ranch in Burton, Texas, halfway between Houston and Austin, one mile off of highway 290. The winery and tasting room were established in the renovated horse barn on the ranch. The rolling hills offer scenic views of the vineyard and ranch and a peaceful setting for your enjoyment of a glass of our estate grown Blanc du Bois and Black Spanish or one of the many other wines crafted here.  Winery hours: Monday – Sunday 11 – 6.

As you wind your way back to the B&B for rest, relaxation and romance, stop in at number five on our list of vineyards near Houston:  Pleasant Hill Winery at 1441 Salem Road in Brenham, TX.  Open weekends only: Saturday-Sunday, 12-5.  Pleasant Hill Winery wines have consistently won many Gold and Silver awards throughout the years.  Their Port is especially delicious after dinner with a decadent chocolate dessert!
