What to do in Austin?   Be sure to check out these Austin Tourist Attractions!  All  make for a great day trip when staying at our upscale Texas Bed and Breakfast!

First on the list and a must do is the State Capital of Texas, of course!  Following the historic tour of our great states capital, choose  from of any of the following options to round out a great day trip of Austin tourist  attractions!

****For history and architecture buffs, you’ll want to visit some of the following attractions:

Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Avenue:  Texas History is chock full of lore, legend, mystery, intrigue and excitement.   This museum mission is dedicated to telling “the story of Texas”.

Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial  Library, 2313 Red River St.: If United States history is your thing, then be sure to visit the LBJ Library, one  of our 13 Presidential libraries.

The Paramount Theatre, 713 Congress Ave.: This classical revival style building built in 1915 and on the National Historic Register hosts live theatre.

Blanton Museum of Art, 200 East Martin Luther King Jr. Bvd:  This is one of the largest university museums in the U.S.

Neill Cochran House Museum, 2310 San Gabriel St.:   this historic home and museum was built in 1855 before Austin was settled and populated.

St. Mary’s Cathedral, 203 E. 10th St.:  This Gothic Revival structure, built in 1844,  is listed on the National  Register of Historic  Places.

French Legation, 802 San Marcos St.:   This is the oldest extant structure in Austin,  built in 1841 to house the French government in the New Republic of Texas.

****If a day in the sun and outdoor adventures is more your speed, then any of these will be sure to please:

Zilker Botanical Park and Barton Springs  Pool, 2100 Barton Springs Road:  Marked as the crown jewel of parks in the Austin Parks system, Zilker park is over 350 acres of recreational land.  Barton Springs Pool, a man-made recreational pool that lies within this Austin treasure, is a popular destination during the summer!

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower  Center, 4801 La Crosse Ave.:   Founded by and named for one of Texas’s former First Lady’s, this center focuses on Texas natives.

McKinney Falls State Park, 5808 McKinney Falls Parkway:  with cool stone separated pools, lots of fresh water and water falls, this Austin gem is also perfect for hiking, biking and camping.

Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, 805 North Capital of Texas HWY:  With 227 acres of pristine wilderness, this preserve boasts 2.5 miles of maintained hiking trails and beautiful scenery.

Mount Bonnell,  3800 Mount  Bonnell  Rd:   A popular tourist destination since 1840, this prominent point at Lake  Austin, overlooks part  of the Colorado  River.
