Just 80 miles from our quaint Brenham, TX town lies the capital city of Austin. This beautiful metropolitan on the shores of Colorado River is known as the “Live Music Capital of the World”, a title reinforced by the long-running television show-turned-festival, Austin City Limits. The city is now known for its annual festival, South by Southwest, an interactive arts festival that brings 20,000 people to Austin each March. Austin is also known for its myriad technology companies. It is home to Dell and Whole Foods, as well as the regional headdquarters for companies Facebook, eBay, and Apple among others.

With such a diverse and extensive creative class population Austin is similarly a foodie hotspot, and is home to numerous and renowned Texas breweries. It is a great day trip from the Murski Homestead where you can enjoy the Texas countryside, and take a trip to visit the big city. Here is a list of some our favorite Texas breweries in the Austin area. Brewery tours and tastings are great way to experience this city’s culture.

  1. Located right on the Colorado River the Oasis Texas Brewing Company is one of Austin’s newest breweries. Their team is made up of experts in European-style beers and focus on brewing great session beers for everyday consumption.
  2. The Twisted X Brewing Company began in 2009 by a few Texans passionate about brewing Mexican style beers with local ingredients. For a real taste of Texas head ot the Tex Mex Tasting Room, open 7 days a week, to try some of their small batch craft beers.
  3. Austin’s oldest craft brewery opened its doors in 1997. The Live Oak Brewing Company is now nationally renowned for its exceptional selection of lagers and ales. They use a German and Czech style of brewing rarely found in the United States, which has been wildly successful for them. Check their website for their limited tour dates.
  4. Adelbert’s Brewery focuses on Belgian style ales brewed with the utmost attention and care. Tastings at their brewery happen Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons and include a tour of their facilities, and there are always food trucks on site. The tasting room is also open for happy hour on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
  5. The Jester King is a farmhouse brewery that focuses on brewing unique and spontaneously fermented beers that reflect their environment in the Texas Hill Country in unincorporated Austin. They use water from their well, locally grown and malted grains and native wild yeast to give their beers a sense of place and the taste of Texas. Their tasting room is open Friday through Sunday.
