Teddy Bear Parade

Chappell Hill Teddy Bear Parade

Visits with Santa, holiday lights, Christmas parades and home tours… Celebrate with those you love and shop ’til you drop this season. Chappell Hill comes alive for two weekends in December offering all of the above!  It starts with the Christmas Fayre and the Teddy Bear Parade the first weekend of December.

Chappell Hill, Texas is home to the famous Teddy Bear Parade, held every year during the Christmas Fayre!  This year it is on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 12-7pm on Main Street in Chappell Hill, Texas.  A delightful holiday event for the whole family, downtown Chappell Hill comes alive with engaging and fun activities like shopping, wine tasting, live music, train rides, live reindeer, and fun & games for the kids.  Don’t forget Santa will pay a visit, too!

Moving on…the next stop on the Holiday Event Calendar in Chappell Hill is the Christmas Country Homes Tour scheduled for December 14 & 15 from  noon -5 pm with 6 amazing structures all decorated for the holidays. Here’s what you can except to see on the tour.

THE MYRTLE PROVIDENCE HOUSE
This lovely 1845 home sits right in the middle of the town of Chappell Hill.  Come and enjoy the large front porch and then enter through the original doors of the home to enjoy many of the antiques of the home which are very much a part of the decor and fabric of the current home.

T & L RANCH
Travis and Linda Cook’s lovely home, located on a hill in the Lakes of Chappell Hill, has been turned into a “mini ranch”.  This sprawling home, built in 2000, has been transformed into a welcoming household with memories of past hunting trips with family and friends.  They invite everyone to come by to share some of their Christmas spirit.

SUMMERHILL (3 homes on property)
Summerhill on Sandy Lane, returns one to the gentle joys of country life.  Sitting on a rolling hillside, you see a replica of an early Texas farm house, a new home and a small restored late 1800’s house.  The homes are furnished with treasured vintage pieces, family heirlooms, and eclectic country French classics.  Many of the quilts in the homes were made by nationally acclaimed quilt makers, from the area of Gee’s Bend, Alabama; all descendants of slaves who worked on a plantation located on the Alabama River.

CHAPPELL HILL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Tour this lovely 1901 church, which replaced the original structure that was blown down from the 1900 Galveston hurricane.  The pews are all original from the 1851 church and the walls are east Texas pine, built by Henry Christen Brandt who treated the interior with boiled linseed oil.     The beautiful windows,  made by a company in Houston, Texas, contain stained glass made in England in the 1890’s when glass was heated over charcoal fire.  The Bible on the altar is dated 1856 and the picture over the altar of the “Last Supper” is from the 1940’s.  Stop in and visit this historical beauty!
