Shopping Antique Weekend and Before

August 23rd, 2012 by Pamela Murski

Have you heard about the semi-annual AntiqueWeekend in Round Top and other rural communities between Houston and Austin.  (It’s not  actually just a weekend but 2-3 weeks straight of  vendors setting up and selling their wares from near and far.)  It’s an amazing collection of hundreds and hundreds antique (high end to reproduction), collectibles &  junk stores and probably (thousands) of booths. You can get  home-decor ideas, as well as pick up vintage pieces at some great prices…haggling is encouraged!

Still undecided? Here are 6 reasons why you should make the trip, just 90 minutes outside Houston:

1. Stay at the B&BThe perfect launch pad and getaway spot to start and end your adventure.

2. Photograph flowers. You can stop along the way and take photos of amazing flowers and country views.

3. Enjoy the weather. It’s the perfect setting to walk around and take in the fantastic outdoor weather.  (If it’s hot, there are air conditioned venues, too.)

4. You can buy something or not. I first went to the more upscale Marburger Farm Show, with $10 admission per person, then visited nearby Warrenton, which has a combination of stores and outdoor booths. Sometimes looking is just as fun and actually buying.

5. Do some major people watching. From the women in cowboy boots and lace skirts to the biker guys, you’ll see some of everything.

6. You need a quick getaway. It’s fun to be out of the town for just a day or two and see another part of Texas.
