Brenham Texas Amphitheatre

The Dr. Bobbie M. Dietrich Memorial Amphitheatre in Hohlt Park was officially opened with its first concert and praise for what it will bring to the quality of life here.

The 300-seat amphitheater was built using a $250,000 donation from Dr. Wilfred Dietrich, who called the project “a dream that Bobbie (his wife) and I had for many years.”  Dietrich said that he and his late wife, who were both Blinn College professors before they retired, “felt that Brenham and the state needed an amphitheater.”

“We decided to build an amphitheater very similar to the ones that we saw in Turkey and other European countries,” he said. “According to Mr. Constantin Barbu (the project’s architect), this is the only one like this in Texas.”

“We built the structure for the people in Brenham, Washington County, Texas and other states and countries to use,” he said. “We hope that a foundation will be established to provide funds for the non-profit institutions to use.    The amphitheater, named in memory of Bobbie Dietrich, a former Blinn College professor, was funded through a $250,000 donation from her husband, Wilfred F. Dietrich.

The Rev. Patricia Dietrich, the Dietrichs’ niece, said Friday’s dedication and concert by the Brazos Wind Symphony and Brazos Breeze Flute Choir “is the first of many wonderful events at this place.”  Upcoming events already scheduled there include five concerts over the next five Saturdays.

The schedule includes Rob Moorman this Saturday, Beau Hinze and The Backporch Shufflers on Nov. 5, Cody Hodges and The Linemen on Nov. 12, Tena Rae Helm and Band on Nov. 19 and the Wesley Westbrook Band on Nov. 26.

All of the performances will begin at 7:30 p.m.
